Historic Walnford Park Wedding Portrait
A wedding day photos of the happy couple at the Historic Walnford Park located in Allentown, NJ. We love how the couple is framed by the green foliage and white fence giving a lot of depth and interested to the photo. The wedding that began a bed and breakfast, with ceremony at the park, and a reception taking place at a the grooms childhood home.

A Colorful and Crisp Wall Mural In Brooklyn
We captured this against an awesome wall in DUMBO Brooklyn during an engagement session early in the morning. Shooting anywhere in NYC means having to wake up early to beat the crowds to get the really iconic shots. I love the way the blue and his suit pops against the red and orange bricks almost like it's an album cover for a CD.

Nanina's In The Park Wedding Portrait
A close and intimate wedding day portrait of the bride and groom taken in the beautiful the outdoor grounds of Nanina's In The Park in Belleville, NJ. The white flowing veil frames both of their faces as it blows in the wind around the camera lens. We love how it gives the edges of the image a dreamy look while bringing attention to their faces and connection together.

Valley Crest Farms Unique Bride and Grom Wedding Portrait
This bride wore a super unique cloak on top of a wedding dress that was hand sewn from her mothers and grandmothers wedding dresses. After travling from the UK to the US, the groom wore a traditional kilt. Together, they made one of the most unique looking couples that we have photographed. A sunset at Valley Crest Farms gave very warm light and an amazing backdrop for this portrait meant to show off their full outfits.

Jersey Shore Beach Portrait in Stone Harbor
After their emotional ceremony, the newlyweds took a walk along the ocean in Sea Isle City where they first met years ago during a vacation to the Jersey Shore. It was a beautiful summer day with blue skies on an isolated section of beach away from the crowds.

A Bride and Her Dog

Rainy Day Portrait of Bride and Groom
We took the newlywed couple out for a few minutes during dinner to create this magical on a rainy evening in Sandy Hook, NJ. We positioned them outside with a white umbrella and a flash hidden behind. We snapped a few photos while trying to keep our camera dry and in just a minute managed to capture this photo. The bride and groom shared their first kiss on a rainy day on one of their first dates so it seemed only destiny that it would also rain during their wedding reception.

From A Church Balcony During Wedding Ceremony
Jersey Shore Beach Wedding Photo
A wedding photo of the newlywed couple on a jetty into the Atlantic Ocean after a small and intimate wedding ceremony on a beach on Howe Street in Bayhead NJ

TOMASELLO WINERY WEDDING BRIDAL PORTRAIT
A dark, dramatic, and artistic portrait of a bride showing off the back of her dress at Tomasello Winery in Hammonton, NJ. The ceremony at this south jersey venue took place in front of a beautiful vineyard. As the sun was setting, we found this perfect ray of light and allowed it to shine through on the brides faces perfectly lighting it up while keeping the rest of the photo dark.

Lehigh University Wedding Portrait
A couples portrait capturing a cute kiss on the cheek from groom to bride on the campus of Lehigh University on their wedding day. Sometimes couples choose portrait locations based solely for the beauty of and other times for the relevence to their lives. In this case, the groom had recently graduated from being student at the university and walked the path in the background many times over the past years. He knew the campus and the Packer Memorial Chapel at which their ceremony was held would be the perfect backdrop to an amazing day. We purposefully framed the photo as a half body shot to keep the focus on the couple while capturing a large amount of the surroundings in frame. Afterwards, we traveled to their reception at the historic Hotel Bethlehem.

A Complex Reflection within Jane's Carousel in Brooklyn
An engagement photo taken at Jane's Carousel during an engagement session in the early morning shoot in DUMBO Brooklyn. Looking closely, you can see the reflection of the bridge cutting through the center of the glass combined with the circular glass skylights and carousel within. The mixing of these elements makes for an incredibly interesting backgroud and keeping the couple relatively simple in front of it keeps the photo looking balanced as a whole. With the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and New York City skyline the area is full of opportunities for beautiful and artistic photographs.

Embracing within the Manhattan Skyline
An image taken during early evening just as the sun began to set of a couple at along the Hoboken waterfront. The Manhattan skyline and NYC stands in the background just before the lights come on. With careful framing and lens choice, I made the pair look larger than even the One World Trade Center. An off camera flash to the side made them really come alive and stand out. It should be said that clothing choice is very important for an engagement session, you have to dress to fit the scenery and mood. This would be a very different image if they had been wearing t-shirts and jeans.
During this very length engagement session, we walked throughout the Hoboken Terminal, along side alleys, and eventually ended up on Pier C at sunset to capture this moment. We love traveling to North Jersey and New York City and exploring the more urban areas to find locations like this.

Oceanside Field at Barnegat Light on Long Beach Island
Captured on a field directly next to the Atlantic Ocean on Long Beach Island NJ at the Barnegat Light State Park. The sun beautifully lights the couple from the front with sand and dune grass stretching off into the distance as far as the eye can see. The Jersey Shore and LBI has a variety of beautiful locations for engagement sessions.

Liberty State Park Silhouette Engagement Session
A sunset photo from an engagement session at Liberty State Park. With an amazing view of Lower Manhattan and New York City and Jersey City over the Hudson River, this is one of our favorite urban style locations without having to actually go into the city itself. With a ferry terminal, historic trainsskyscrapers in the distance, and waterside walkways there is a huge variety of options in a relatively small space and without much walking. Add in very easy parking and it makes it a great place for both engagement sessions and wedding day portraits. The sunset on this day was captured in the reflective walls of the memorial walkway and perfectly framed the couple. I can't think of anywhere else that creates this sort of effect.

First Dance Captured from Above
A beautiful and touching moment during first dance between bride and groom surrounded by bridal party, family and friends. Taken while leaning out from the second floor balcony at the historic Knowlton Mansion in Philadelphia PA. I love to seek out different angles to capture moments such as this to mix in with the more traditional photographs to provide a variety of photographs.

Walking to the Alter
I captured this wide angle photo of the bride and father walking up the aisle inside of a historic cathedral church on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I love the variety of details that can be spotted when carefully looking around it. From the brides beautiful dress and the grooms reaction as he looks at her to the many guests looking on. The church aisle was very long so I positioned myself halfway up it to get both photos the faces and reactions of the they proceeded in as well as photographs from the back after they past by me. I captured it especially wide because the amazing architecture and stained glass windows of the church added extra interest. I studied for my bachelors degree in the Lehigh Valley near Easton and always love travelling back to photograph weddings.

A Dramatic Wedding Portrait in Philadelphia, PA
A wedding day portrait of a couple in the Old Bar (In the historic Bookbinders building). This indoor portrait took more set up time than some typical outdoor images we grab in short time on wedding days. Some furniture was slid out of frame, lamp cords were hidden, and the flash power carefully adjusted to give the impression of being lit by the large window by the couple. To someones eye, the scene looked very similar to this, but extra flash was necessary to light it up for the camera see with plenty of definition. We love setting up portraits like this when the couple wants to spend some extra time to create some truly magical memories of the wedding day.

Wall Framed Bridal Portrait with Window Light
A wide and simple portrait of the bride contemplating the fast approaching ceremony on her wedding at The Mill in Spring Lake, NJ while looking out a window. The beautiful flower bouquet she is holding is the only pop of the color in an otherwise completely black and white image. The white and flowing dress contrasts well against the dark floor and curtains due to the angle we chose to stand at. We captured this photography in hotel room during a relatively rare quiet moment among the hustle of the bridal party putting on their finishing touches.

Wedding Dress Hanging in Historic Room
An image of the bride's wedding dress hanging in a rustic room with a old desk, typewriter, and bookshelf just before she puts it on prior to the ceremony.
We love to photograph the getting ready aspect of weddings and think it is on the same level of importance as the ceremony and reception. We capture emotions and interactions between the couple and their close family and friends in a private setting that we don't get at any other part of the day. The combination of quiet reflection and excited anticipation often to leads to some of our favorite images from the day.
A big part of the getting ready is for us to photograph all of the details - the dress, the shoes, jewelry, invitations, and more. When doing so, we include parts of of the venue and wedding theme so that the whole story fits together well. In this case, we had an amazing room in Knowlton Mansion, Philadelphia, hung the dress of the door, grabbed a wide angle lens, and shot away. We always manage find unique and artistic spots for the details whether it be in a bridal suite, lobby, hotel, barn, or somewhere completely different.

A Dramatic Group Groomsmen
A dramatically lit portrait of the groomsmen of the bridal party prior to the marriage ceremony. We captured it in Knowlton Mansion in Northeast Philadelphia, but it easily could be at any venue or any room be it North Jersey or New York. There was a window off to the side of the group, but it was an overcast day so we added some extra light with an LED enhancing the window light and making the group glow in the room. Don't worry, we got a bit more lighthearted photos outside after the ceremony.

Dark Bridal Portrait With Flower
A beautiful window lit bridal portrait with a flower from the bride's own garden before picking up her custom bouquet. The sunlight hitting her veil and face gives it a light and elegant glow in front of the dark background behind. While it looks like a carefully posed or lit photograph, I simply positioned her in the right place and told her to look out to the side while snapping away. We met her at the always popular Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown before traveling to McLoone's Pierhouse in Long Branch in a classic Buick for a semi traditional Jewish wedding ceremony on the Jersey Shore.

Natural Light First Dance
We photographed this moment in time during a carefully choreographed first dance during a wedding taking place The Mill Lakeside Manor. As the sun set over the lake just out the windows we knew we didn't need to use flash. With careful positioning, we kept the sun to the side of the couple and snapped away. This is just one of many amazing moments for those 5 dhort minutes.

Stunning Sunset Engagement Over the Barnegat Bay
A crisp image of an amazing young couple during an engagement session at the Barnegat Light State Park. The quality of light was perfect during most of the day thanks to an overcast day which evenly spread the sun. However right towards the end, the sudden fell just below the clouds off into the distance and color began to fill the sky. I scrambled to grab my flash and positioned to off the side while they climbed out tot he tip of a rocky outcropping. The peak of the colorful rays last just a few moments which turned out to be exactly long enough to capture this moment fit to hang on a wall.

Window Lit Staircase in a Mansion
While walking up this staircase, we noticed a window perfectly positioned to direct the midday sun into a perfect cone shape on the red wallpaper. We positioned the couple directly in this light and allowed to sun to expose them perfectly while allowing the remainder of the scene fall into darkness. We love that this was done entirely with natural light instead of flash but has such a unique and almost surreal quality about it. Every venue has magical spots like this and it's just a matter of knowing what to look for and best utilize them to create artistic images.

A Dramatic Mother and Son First Dance
This is a photograph where lens choice, lighting, and positioning all came together to create an artistic photograph of a first dance. We knew we wanted to capture the string likes twinkling in the background to break up the solid dark break wall so we positioned ourselves accordingly and chose a lens to make the large compared to the couple. Our flash was positioned off to the side and we waited for mother and son to rotate to capture their expressions. As is a large majority of our photographs, this was entirely candid and we gave no instruction to the couple or had them pose specifically for this photograph. They were able to both fully be in the moment of their dance and we captured a memorable image from it.

Teamwork During Bridal Preparations
A whole team of family members help this bride finish closing the back of her dress in Cape May, NJ. Usually it only takes one or two, but this is one of the many real and memorable moments we captured this wedding day. Even if something is less than perfect, we allow the moment to play out instead of having people pause or fake things whenever possible. We believe that not every photo has to be technically perfect in terms of the background and framing and that the subject matter itself can often times carry the entire photo. Not much later on this morning, the matron of honor was caught with a steak knife cutting tags off the back of this dress. Though it turned into a rainy day, there was a beautiful same sex ceremony, beach portraits and a jersey shore style ceremony at the Stone Harbor Yacht Club.

A Gradient of Light During Engagement Shoot
A engagement session photo taken under one of the many secondary roads crossing near Benjamin Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia, PA. The image transitions almost smoothly from darkness to bright as your eye travels to the left across the frame to the couple. This was one of those in-between type shots we stumbled on while walking between Race Street Pier and the historic Elfreth's Alley. The setting sun was shining through the bridge in such that we noticed this interesting formation of light on the wall and knew we had to make use of it. While we love capturing the really iconic buildings and locations in our photos, we equally enjoy making amazing images out of spots you could drive by every day and think was boring. This was casually posed by setting the couple up embracing by the wall and prompting them for a more serious expression. After spending the previous and following time in a more playful mood with party hats and balloons, this was a nice way to break up the set with what we consider to be an artistic shot. Their outfit choices were stunning for an engagement session in a city location like this.

A Pair of First Dances
A photo-journalistic image capturing all both brides and their parents in one frame during this same-sex wedding reception in Cape May, NJ. This is what consider to be a strong example of a story telling image that truly shows the events of the wedding as it happened. We could have asked the four to line up in the middle of the dance floor, but this candid photo is so much stronger with the motion it shows. We always make heavy use of a foreground and background balance in our composition where objects in one frame another. This concept necessitates a deep understanding of lighting set to make sure elements of the image are appropriately lit and one isn't overly bright while the other is shrouded in darkness. We love capturing complex photos like this at every wedding.

Wedding Portrait Within A Wall Mural
A unique portrait taken in Asbury Park, NJ with unique graffiti style art framing the bride and groom. One of the most colorfulportraits we have taken in terms of the sheer number of colors and patterns present. The plain brick column in the center provides a perfect place to position the couple. If not for the empty section, it would almost be too busy to bring attention to the couple.
This was a very loosely posed wedding portrait where we told the bride and groom where to stand and they did the rest interacting according to their personalities. I believe there is a place for candid and documentary-style photos like this as well as more traditional and more carefully posed photographs. The best method ultimately depends on the day, couple, weather, locations, and more.
Asbury Park is a very dynamic area which is why I especially look forward to photography weddings and engagements no matter how many times I have been there. With the very active local arts scene, the artwork covering the old casino and other buildings along the boardwalk is forever being painted over and changing. There are always musicians, artists, magicians, and more lining the wooden boardwalk overlooking the beach performing for all the locals and tourists. On the right day, the Stone Pony Summer Stage concert series plays music loud enough that you can get a free concert from almost anywhere on the boardwalk. The nearby Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel has a beautiful lobby and ballrooms for wedding receptions.

Flowering Tree with Wedding Dress
While arriving to the bridal prep, we discovered this tree in perfect bloom within the front yard of the Bride's childhood home and immediately knew we had to make to use of it. Aside from being a unique and colorful photograph of the dress, it is also one in a location meaningful to her and her family. They spent years together watching the tree bloom on a yearly basis out their windows and while relaxing on their porch in Philadelphia, PA. We took the dress just outside away from the hustle and bustle of hair and makeup, found the perfect branch to safely hang it, and used a wide lens to capture the dress framed between the tree and front of the home.

Elegant Window Silhouette
A silhouette of a couple against a large and ornate window during an engagement session within the Hoboken Terminal in NJ right across the Hudson River from NYC. Against many other windows, this would be a rather plain photograph and lack any particular interest. However, the elaborate decoration along the top edge of this one fill in what would be empty space and, along with the placed couple on the bottom, creates a balanced and very intentional image. We made careful choice in our lens and position to make the window seem as large as possible against the couple. If parts of their body spilled outside of the light glass section, the image would be muddy and unclear. With them complete surrounded by the window and their foreheads placed together you can immediately tell what is happening. At this time of day, the sun was streaming into the station evenly and gave an even glow to the glass. With most parts of the photograph being naturally almost entirely black and entirely white stray bits of color are distracting so we converted it to black and white.

Sea Girt Engagement Sunset
An incredible sunset behind an embracing couple during an engagement session on a beach near Sea Girt Light House on the NJ shore. Beach engagement and wedding sessions are always at their best when the sun is low in the sky. The side lighting really shows off the texture of the sand, provides nice and soft lighting on the couple, and the often turns bright and vibrant colors.

Looking out on a Rainy Day
This photograph is different than many others shown on this page in that it doesn't include the bride or groom directly. Instead, it is an in between photograph of a nephew. We captured this image after hopping off a trolley in Cape May, NJ on a wedding day to take a look at a spot for portraits. It was raining and thus had every remain covered on the trolley and we caught him looking out the window and quickly grabbed a shot. It likely won't be framed and hung on a wall or make it into an album, but we don't photograph entirely focused on albums or prints. Doing so would mean we disregard what could be an otherwise compelling image. Instead, on a wedding day, we focus on the overall story and flow an translate it into stills. That includes many candid and photojournalistic photographs such as this one.

Modern First Dance of the Bride and Groom
We photographed this first dance at and the very interesting ceiling at McLoone's PierHouse in Long Branch, NJ in Monmouth County. Both the bride and groom clearly took pride in rehearsing this dance in advance. Full of spins, twists, and movement it was definitely not what we expected. We knew we wanted to capture the wedding party and reactions in the background so positioned ourselves accordingly and waited for the perfect moment mid dance. We love the combination of colors - with mostly grey and cremes but with hints of blues and greens scattered about. During the reception we work in a completely photojournalistic and documentary style to focus on capturing moments like this. We believe they are more compelling to look back on than if the couple was looking into our camera and smiling on the middle of the dance floor.

Bride and Bridesmaids during Bridal Prep
A candid image of one of the "all hands on deck" moments as the bridesmaids help the bride get on her shoes prior to her wedding ceremony. Captured at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, NJ
